Family Friendly Jury Duty Legislation

There has been legislation proposed to the Missouri House of Representatives that will allow breastfeeding moms to be exempt from serving jury duty. HB1100 has been introduced and it up for hearing.

This bill will be heard in committee this Tuesday, January 31, 12 noon in Hearing Room 7.

Did I tell you we're going through this here right now? I'm going with Angie to jury selection tomorrow because her request for exemption w/ doctor's note was denied. Two months ago a judge across the state told a mom of a 3 mo old nursing infant (whom she brought with to jury selection) to find childcare for her baby or he would... and the Governor's office couldn't do anything to make him change his mind (nor legally force him to).

NO! I had no clue you were dealing with that!! That is terrible!! Who the bleep do these people think they are????? What are you going to do to help her?

I'm going with tomorrow to watch Alex if she decides not to sling him for jury selection. If they still don't excuse her, I'll be the internet rounder-upper for the nurse-in/media coverage/Governor & Congressmen letter writer... and I told her I'd watch/nurse Alex for her if this judge is a hard-ass like that hall of shame judge.

For now, we're just praying that she'll be excused tomorrow to avoid a confrontation... but who knows (God, obviously) - maybe a big stink is exactly what is needed...

That's great - and you might be right - a big stink might be needed at least for the long run. I really, really, really wish I had known about this bill (in MO) earlier!! I don't feel like there's much of anything I can do right now. I'm going to contact my rep tomorrow and let them know how I feel, but that's about it.
